New ideas in flood mitigation include porous pavements, porous sidewalks,
microretention and detention [with vegetated swales], and microrelief.
Flat land was probably created by a flood; so floods underlie the terrain's
geomorphology.
The flatter the land, the more prone to flooding.
Kinematic slopes [greater than 1%] will move water out [drain] as fast as
possible.
Grading produces onsite drainage, but it increases the risk
of flooding offsite.
