Sustainable development entails the sustainable use of natural resources, including energy, air, water, soils, minerals, nutrients, flora and fauna.

The term was first used in the report
"Our Common Future" by the Brundtland Commission, in April 1987.

The Brundtland Commission was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1984.

The impacts of development should be short-termed.

This entails the use of renewable energy in lieu of nonrenewable [fossil] energy.

Solar energy is the best source of renewable energy.

Other sources of renewable energy are wind and hydro.

Energy conservation is also important.
