COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT

BETWEEN

UNIVERSIDAD TECNICA PARTICULAR DE LOJA
Loja, Ecuador


The provisions recorded below establish the principles and conditions by which San Diego State University, San Diego, California, hereafter referred to as SDSU, and the Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja, herefater referred to as UTPL, agree to engage in academic colaboration and joint scientific research.


I. LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF BOTH UNIVERSITIES

SDSU is one of 23 universities of the California State University System, operating under the authority of Title V of the California Administrative Code. The president of the campus can execute agreements with foreign universities of high standing to achieve good relations and foster international understanding through the exchange of academic and research programs.

II. COMMON INTERESTS AND OBJECTIVES

By reason of their very existence as universities, SDSU and UTPL are interested in establishing cooperative agreements dealing with academic collaboration and scientific research with institutions that have similar objectives.


III. PURPOSE OF THE AGREEMENT

The objective of the present agreement is to: (1) establish the foundations for academic cooperation and research, (2) execute projects dealing with technological development and scientific research, (3) exchange faculty and students, (4) cooperate in syllabus development, and (5) strengthen existing academic programs.

SDSU and UTPL agree to achieve the following objectives:

  • Exchange of faculty and research personnel.
  • Exchange of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Cooperative development of course syllabi and new academic programs.
  • Combined development of research projects which have a scientific or technological purpose.
  • Any other activity of mutual interest which is related to academic, scientific, ort technological research.


IV. EXECUTION OF THE AGREEMENT

The specific activities to be carried out as part of this general agreement will be detailed in the specific subagreements, which once approved by both SDSU and UTPL, will be considered to be part of the appendix to this agreement.

The results of the research may be published in conferences, seminars, journals, or theses.


V. TERMS AND TERMINATION

The present agreement will take effect upon its signature, and is subject to revision every two years. SDSU and UTPL can modify the content of this agreement or can terminate it through written communication 30 days in advance. However, the termination of this agreement will not affect the activities begun during the operation, which will be continued until their completion.


VI. COORDINATION AND FOLLOW-UP

Administration of the Cooperative Agreement shall be the responsibility of the Assistant Vice President for International Programs at SDSU and ______________ (add here counterpart) at UTPL.
