CIV E 444 - APPLIED HYDRAULICS
SPRING 2016
HOMEWORK No. 11
- Design a circular concrete culvert with the following data: Q = 220 cfs;
inlet invert elevation = 100 ft; bottom slope = 0.02;
culvert length = 200 ft; tailwater depth above outlet invert = 4 ft; roadway shoulder elevation = 112 ft;
Manning's n = 0.013; entrance type is square edge with headwalls, and upstream freeboard = 2 ft. Use ONLINE CULVERT.
- Determine the discharge in a gated spillway of length L = 100 ft, when the operating head is 5 ft and the gate opening 1 ft.
What is the discharge if the opening is raised by 0.5 ft?
- A hydraulic jump is formed in a rectangular channel.
The upstream depth and velocity are y1 = 0.1 m
and v1 = 3 m/s, respectively. What is the energy loss?
Verify with ONLINE CHANNEL 12.
- A hydraulic jump is formed in a rectangular channel
with q = 0.3 m2/s.
The energy loss is 0.145 m. What are the sequent depths?
Use ONLINE CHANNEL 16.
- A hydraulic jump is formed in a rectangular channel
with sequent depths y1 = 0.1 m and y2 = 0.381 m.
What is the energy loss? Verify with
ONLINE CHANNEL 19.
