TEMPORARY FACULTY EVALUATION 25 March 2013
1 Professor Jorge Meneses Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering College of Engineering Dear Prof. Meneses: The CCEE Personnel Committee has evaluated materials for periodic evaluation of temporary and part-time faculty. The following is a summary of the committee's comments. The Committee feels that your students evaluations are very good. However, some students feel that the exams are too long, and that you should be more consistent with your office hours. Please pay attention to these issues, since they are likely help you improve your evaluations in the future. The Committee urges you to review the student evaluations carefully. While some students say that you communicate the subject clearly (CIV E 642), others criticize your apparently excessive use of Power Point (CIV E 444). However, students of CIV E 495 were somewhat critical of the way things were run in that course. One student went so far as to say that the class "was mostly unorganized." The Committee urges you to concentrate on a few classes where your interests and abilities may go unchallenged. A sample will suffice here: "This professor should not be allowed to teach this class anymore." "I did learn anything from Hemati." Yet, some say "really good professor." The Committee feels that the mixed reviews are an indication of latent problems with your teaching style, organization, or approach. Yet others spoke highly of the course content and its delivery. Students agree that you know the material, but could spend a little more effort making sure they understand it.
