Dear Prof. Radniecki:

The Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department Personnel Committe has evaluated the materials that you have submitted for reappointment to the rank of assistant professor. I am pleased to inform you that the Committee recommends that you be reappointed for a third probationary year.

The Committee considers your teaching effectiveness to be very good to excellent. While most of your student evaluations are above the departmental average, the verbatim comments are very positive and laudatory. The Committee encourages to continue on this path towards excellence in teaching, a requirement for eventual access to tenure. The Committee is particularly impressed with your record of new course development. Also, the Committe commends you highly on your record of student mentoring as shown by the number of theses and special studies.

The Committee considers your professional growth to be very good. Your record of scholarly publications is very good, as demonstrated by the several publications under your authorship or coauthorship in the past two years, more so because these works have been published in well recognized journals, such as Chemosphere (JIF= 3.613) and Environmental Science and Technology (JIF = 5.228). The Committee wishes to express their belief that publication in recognized scientific journals is a prerequisite for tenure and promotion in our university. Therefore, it encourages you to continue publishing the results of your research, and to engage students in the experience.

The Committee considers your service to be very good. The Committee notes that you have a service appointment with national reach, and the Committee commends you for it. You also have mentored high school students and have some activity in the departmental Honors and Awards Committee.

In summary, the Committee finds your teaching effectiveness to be very good to excellent, your professional growth to be very good, and your service to be very good. The Committee congratulates you on your efforts, and looks forward to your continued progress.

You have the right to submit a response or rebuttal in writing to this letter of recommendation. If you choose to submit a written response, it must be delivered to the departmental office by October XX, 2011 using the response/rebuttal form available from the Faculty Affairs website (http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~facaff/newrtp.html)

Sincerely yours,

Victor M. Ponce
