New School of Architecture Dear Sirs: This letter is written on behalf of Prof. Daniela Deutsch at her request. I have known Prof. Deutsch for a little more than two (2) years. In the Spring of 2015, our department invited her to teach our senior seminar "CIV E 401: Engineering and Society," a required class for all our seniors, which meets once-a-week for one hour. Typically 60-70 students take this class every semester. The class covers the historical, environmental, social, political, and philophical perspectives in civil engineering. Daniela took this new responsibility as a personal challenge and rose to perform very well. The students liked her knowledge of the subject and complimented her on her approach to teaching. She taught this course for three consecutive semesters, after which she had to give it up due to her increasing responsibilities at New School. Based on my knowledge developed over the past two years, I judge Daniela as exceptionally qualified to teach a variety of subjects in architecture and architectural engineering. In my opinion, she is particularly well qualified to teach at the interphase between these two professions. Daniela possesses a rare combination of clear mind, focused drive, and a passion for accomplishment, in addition to the social skills required to function properly in complex interdisciplary settings. Her education and experience to-date amply qualifies her to be successful in American academia. I recommend her, without hesitation, for a career in architecture and architectural engineering teaching and research. Please contact me if you require further assistance in assessing Prof. Deutsch's qualifications.
Sincerely yours,
