ADVECTIVE PRECIPITATION In December of 1993, I was invited to lecture at the National Institute of Hydrology, in Roorke, India. My presentation was titled "Management of floods and droughts in semiarid regions." Two years later, in 1995, I followed with a related paper entitled Management of droughts and floods in the semiarid Brazilian Northeast: The case for conservation.". The theoretical concepts were presented in the paper "Surface albedo and water reseources: The hydroclimatological impact of human activities," published in 1997. A key element of the theory is Budyko's model, which separates precipitation into its advective and evaporative components. A crucial step is the quantification of the water vapor advected into the control volume. At the end of the lecture, one of the participants confided to me: "Prof. Ponce, I have been in the field of hydrology for about ten years, and have not heard anybody talk about advective precipitation."   Sunset at Calangute Beach, Goa, India.
